Rebooting Civilization
Edge. REBOOTING CIVILIZATION II: «Just last week, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology named Seth Lloyd published a paper in Physical Review Letters estimating how many calculations the universe could have performed since the Big Bang — 10^120 operations on 10^90 bits of data, putting the mightiest supercomputer to shame. This grand computation essentially consists of subatomic particles ricocheting off one another and “calculating” where to go.»
Wikipedia. Technological singularity: «Let an ultraintelligent machine be defined as a machine that can far surpass all the intellectual activities of any man however clever. Since the design of machines is one of these intellectual activities, an ultraintelligent machine could design even better machines; there would then unquestionably be an ‘intelligence explosion,’ and the intelligence of man would be left far behind. Thus the first ultraintelligent machine is the last invention that man need ever make. [...]
We tell it to solve a mathematical problem, and it complies by turning all the matter in the solar system into a giant calculating device, in the process killing the person who asked the question.»
KurzweilAI.net. What’s money? (posted on 07/04/2007 9:45 PM by eldras): «-What is it’s future post A.I.?
-Money should be non existent after society has fully transitioned into a singularity era. Resources should no longer be “limited” in any significant extent to warrant such. After the singularity it’s all about art and speciation of thought, having money is a significant limiter.
Some propose money’s use be access of information - to which I kindly respond, WHAT THE HELL?!?!»
